You have to admit, coming up with the Five Things idea really blew last weeks prompts off the list of things to do ;) Of course, I'm still on Thing One of five, but never mind!

But it's why I chose to fall back on prompts we both recognise, and they might be a comfort zone:

31_days prompts!Collapse )

- You get about one week to write (up until new prompts are posted, either next Friday or Saturday). Post your works as comments to this entry, or if the length is too much, please link us in the comments!
- Prompts are only to be used as inspiration!
- Fiction, fanfiction, poetry, anything else you can think of; it is all accepted! We're just trying to encourage some creativity here ;)

Yet another week of prompts! There are three different types of prompts under the cuts - quotes, a theme to work with, and a selection of words to include in the fic. Pick one of the three or write something for all, it's up to you. :D

After a long while, we are going to get back on track and try our hands at some writing again, yes? XD

Take a peek at the image prompts, based around Primary and Secondary colours:

- Prompts are only to be used as inspiration, you do NOT need to include everything or anything from the image! 'The Red Umbrella' could have you setting a story in the rain, or writing about an item going missing because it reminds you of last year when you forgot your umbrella on a bus. As long as the image inspires something, it counts!

Challenge Ten

Here goes the new challenges! :)

-

Starting line/ending line for fic.
Starting Line: "Well, I didn't see that one coming."
Ending Line: 'So,' a voice asked in his head, 'was it worth it?'
Either: And they all lived happily ever after.

-

"Shopping list" - elements, objects, settings, situations etc to all be included in the fic.
Objects that must be referenced in the fic (i.e. - do not have to be mentioned word-for-word as written here).
3 photographs
2 broken items
1 undelivered invitation
1 stuffed toy animal
2 drinking glasses

-

Special challenge; to improve writing technique. Examples are "description pieces", "dialogue only" and "character study".
This challenge is based on characterisation. You must write a scene from one character's perspective OR point-of-view, and then rewrite the scene from another character's perspective or point of view. You may do this as many times as you like, but the catch is; you must really make it obvious who these characters are by their thoughts and responses. There is no ban on using names or anything of the sort, but the key is to make everyone seem so individual that we aren't just rereading the same scene over and over again. Perhaps an argument with many sides, or something similar that will flow in the retelling.

ANY fandom, and you may use each challenge type AS MANY TIMES AS YOU LIKE in the same or different fandoms; however you are inspired! :)

New Format for Prompts!

Now for a basic explanation of the new format we'd like to try...

-

Basic Explanation:

An initial post containing three challenges/prompts will be posted; they can and will be anything from the below formats. They will be chosen randomly, so you may see the same type of prompt twice in a row, while others you may not see at all for a while. When you respond, just put in the comment which challenge type you are using (if there is more than one mention that; you're free to combine all the ideas if you like!)

- An extra layer if you so wish it (some people will be using this format): Create a list of fandoms you can write in/wish to try and write in, and number them in a random order. Let the rest of us know the numbers we can choose up to, and someone will respond to you with three random numbers. You must write from the prompts using these fandoms only. (Not Manditory by ANY means, but some people find it easier to write when they have a smaller choice of fandoms to use).

-

Challenge Types:

- A quote to inspire fic - phrases & sayings, inspirational & famous, etc.
- Lyrics as inspiration - NOT songfic.
- A selection of words to include in the fic. Minimum of three.
- One-word themes.
- Photos/pictures/drawings.
- Starting line/ending line for fic.
- (A) line(s) of dialogue to include.
- A series of related themes; colours, deadly sins, the senses, etc.
- Very specific challenges (can include time limit, word limit, genre, pairing, setting, or other technical details - limit of three specifics).
- "Shopping list" - elements, objects, settings, situations etc to all be included in the fic. Usually in increasing amounts (i.e - 1 of this, 2 of that, 3 of those...)
- Title challenge; a title is given and a fic must be written to fit.
- Special challenge; to improve writing technique. Examples are "description pieces", "dialogue only" and "character study".
- Meme Challenge; individual challenge prompts based on inputting usernames and getting random results. http://memegen.org.

The new prompts will be up next! :)

Round-Up For Challenges One to Nine.

This is a round-up of all the prompt-lists and winners so far; we'd like to try a different format for the community for a while, and see how it fares. I'll give you an explanation soon, along with the new challenge(s!) and you can tell me what you think. If more people prefer the old format we can go back to that :) But for now!

Challenges One to Nine recapped...Collapse )

Week Nine Round-up!

This was a better week than some! We had five entries altogether.

These five were mostly RPS fics, but we had one book fandom, as well. It's good to see people writing.

sour_kity had three fics, two Kasabian and one unnamed (but she was picturing pete/carl of the Libs, I believe.) She used four word sets.
emothy wrote two fics, one Kasabian!AU and one Farseer Trilogy. She used nine word sets.

The winner this week is emothy with her impressive Farseer Trilogy fic - she used five word sets in it. Good job Em! :D

Now go post the new prompts, Em!

Week Nine!

Hi!

I'm a week late with this challenge, and I have no excuse for not posting it other than being horribly lazy (although I was busy last weekend, so I'm not surprised I forgot.) And then I didn't think posting it in the middle of the week would have worked, so I left it until now.

This week's prompts are word sets. Below the cut there are thirty sets of word groups, ranging from four words to seven, that should be used in a fic. The entire object of the challenge this week, is to use as many words in one single fic as you possibly can. So that means if you can use all of these words in one fic, do so! Or use none, but just write!

And the tenses of the words can be altered, of course.

Week Eight Winner!

Two fics written this week; yay for something ;)

delaminate; One fic, Dr Who (TV Series), including a Word Of The Day from August 2002.
emothy; One fic, The Time Traveler's Wife fic, but not eligible for the challenge because it didn't include a Word Of The Day.

Making the winner...

delaminate!

Hope you're suitably embarrassed Catty ;)

So participation has been a little lax recently. Is there a reason for this? Are we doing something wrong? Are there prompts/ways of handling this community that would work better for you? Please let us know; the idea is to have as much participation as POSSIBLE! :)

---

Anyway, this week's challenge (which will last over a week to make up for it's late posting): You must write a fic that begins or ends with one of the following one-line notes under the cut. It really must END or BEGIN with the note: it has to be the FIRST or LAST line in the fic (which one it is, is entirely up to you). Who the note is from, and who it is to, is also up to you. Just replace (character name) with anyone you please, from any fandom! The length of your fic is not an issue; it can be 100 words to 10,000+

30 NotesCollapse )

The challenge this week is to include in your fic a word from the Word of the Day Archive at dictionary.com. Either link to the month for the word you choose, or make a note in your header of when and where it came from so that we all know! The word you use is up to you, but it must be the exact word; no alterations or synonyms. Whoever uses the most words (in one fic, or in lots of different fics) will get a pretty banner!

So go at it ;)
